Atlanta Track Club's Adopt a Marathon Mile
Adopt a Marathon Mile is the Atlanta Track Club’s (ATC) neighborhood and nonprofit program at the Atlanta Marathon and Marathon Relay. The mission of the program is to generate course support for the event, while giving back to Atlanta’s nonprofit organizations. It’s a celebration of community, a support system for the runners and a fundraising platform for Atlanta’s nonprofits.
Eighteen metro Atlanta nonprofit organizations were chosen to participate in the 2011 Adopt a Marathon Mile program. The Atlanta Track Club (ATC) awarded $117,500 to the 18 local nonprofit organizations, with seven organizations being award the grand prize of $7,500. Volunteer requirements for participating organizations included a minimum of 15 volunteers to assist the ATC at the nonprofit’s water stop and a minimum of 15 spectators and cheerleaders in each “cheer zone.” Organizations that met the minimum requirements on race day received a base donation of $3,500. Organizations could earn an additional donation- up yo $7,500 total- depending on the total course support provided including the number of volunteers, costumes and signage and more.
