If you want to join in on the festivities of a marathon, without having to conquer the full 26.2, then join us for the Atlanta Marathon Relay! It's the perfect opportunity to join in on the fun! Below is general information on the Atlanta Marathon Relay that you will find useful for race day.

Getting to the Race
Plenty of parking will be available on race day in the Atlantic Station parking garage. Parking is free for the first two hours, and then a fee is charged for each additional hour. View the fees here. Please plan on arriving at least one hour prior to the start to allow plenty of time to park, check in your gear and get to the start line. Below are directions for getting to the race:
From I-85 Southbound
Head south on I-85 exit 17th Street. Turn right on 17th Street. Atlantic Station will be on your right, and signs will direct you to the parking deck.
From I-75 Southbound
Head south on I-75, exit on Northside Drive and take a right. Continue straight on Northside Drive until you reach 17th Street. Turn left onto 17th Street. Atlantic Station will be on your left, and signs will direct you to the parking deck.
From I-75/85 Northbound
Head north, and exit on 17th Street. Turn left on 17th Street. Atlantic Station will be on your right, and signs will direct you to the parking deck.
Team Divisions
- Men-all men.
- Women-all women.
- Mixed-at least one woman.
- Corporate Mixed-all team members that work for the same company, with at least one woman on the team.
Relay Legs
The Atlanta Marathon Relay consists of four relay legs, totaling 26.2 miles. A relay team member may run more than one leg, but the legs must be run consecutively. The approximate distance for each relay leg is:
- Leg 1 – 5.5 miles
- Leg 2 - 8.4 miles
- Leg 3 – 5.1 miles
- Leg 4 – 7.2 miles
Gear Check
Gear check will be available on race day in the start area. Gear check will not be available at the relay exchange areas, so please plan accordingly. Learn more about it here.
Transportation
Shuttle buses will be provided on race day to take you to and from the transition area. Learn more about getting to the relay exchange areas here.
Course Time Limit
The marathon relay course has a 6 ½ hour time limit (14:53 mile pace). Please be sure your leg one (A) runner is able to maintain a 14:53 minute mile or faster pace. The course will open to traffic once participants doing a 14:53 minute mile pace have passed, and anyone still on the course will be responsible for his or her own safety and asked to move to the sidewalk.
Shirts and Awards
All Atlanta Marathon Relay participants will receive a Nike long-sleeve performance shirt and a finisher's medal. View the 2011 commemorative finisher’s medal here.
Awards will be given on race day to the top three teams in each relay division.
Relay Exchange Areas
- The first relay exchange area is located at Trinity and Forsyth.
- The second relay exchange area is located at N Highland and E Freedom Parkway.
- The third relay exchange area is located at Briarcliff and Johnson Road.

Fluids and Fuel
Water will be located in the start area, and stations with water and POWERade will be located along the course approximately every mile and a half.
Timing and Results
Relay teams will receive a finish time only based on their net time (time elapsed between the first leg / "A" runner crossing the start line and the last leg / "X" runner crossing the finish line). Splits for individual relay legs will not be provided, so please plan accordingly.
Each relay team will receive one slap-wrist bracelet with a timing tag attached. Each relay team member must exchange the slap-wrist bracelet in the relay exchange zone. Results will be posted on atlantamarathon.org the evening of October 28.
Post-Race Party
After the race, finishers, family and friends can celebrate in the post-race area. Live music will be provided for everyone to enjoy.
